Spray is comprised of Ricardo Autobahn (synthesisers) and Jenny McLaren (vocals), both formerly of Cuban Boys, who took their chaotic technopunk to number 1 on the Festive 50 (twice), recorded one of the best Peel Sessions ever, and went head-to-head with Sir Cliff Richard in a Christmas chart battle. Spray’s music is awash with bubblegum electropop and situationist satire. This is chorus-orientated, hook-heavy pop that is deceptively subversive. The lyrics are observational and incisive, but delivered in such a bright, innocent way that you can easily find yourself having a ‘wait, what?’ style whiplash at what you just heard.
